What Does Your BMW Look Like From Behind?

You don’t see the backside of your BMW very often, but everyone behind you does. It is interesting to know what they think when looking at your tail lights. Let’s put it this way, if you were in their position, what would you say about the rear view of your car?

Dull? Not bad? Awesome?

Now take a close look at your tail lights and say with honesty which of the three answers above fit the description of your existing tail lights. What if you find your tail lights dull? Or not bad, as in nothing special, looking ordinary?

We want our car to look awesome all around. And for a classy person like you, you might want to consider getting your tail lights upgraded.

Upgrading your tail lights to LEDs is not mainly about safety function. It’s also about style. And you know what? The fun part of this upgrade is not just giving your BMW an attractive rear view, but also the experience of installing the pieces yourself and sharing your experience to others.

It is easy to install new tail lights on your BMW.

Basic hand tools needed:

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Philips screwdriver
  • T15 torx bit socket
  • 10mm socket

Installation Guide:

  1. Open trunk as you work from the inside. Slide and remove the backing plate at the back of the tail light. It houses all the inner bulbs so carefully disconnect it.
  2. Unbolt the 10mm nuts that are holding the tail lights behind.  Once loosen, pull it gently from side to side.
  3. Install the new tail light back in the opening. Make sure that the wiring goes through the opening. The mounting holes of the tail light should match the mounting holes on the car.
  4. Tighten up the 10mm nuts to secure the tail light and plug the original socket.
  5. Install the backing plate of the new tail light and secure it with a wing nut. Makes sure everything is in proper place and secured.

That’s it and you’re good to go!

For the inbound lights on the trunk, you will have to remove the padding from the backside to access the screws.  Use the flat-head screwdriver to remove the clips from the padding.

  1. Unscrew the two T15 screws holding the inbound light.
  2. Remove the housing that holds the inner bulbs, and you are going to see a 10mm screw. Unscrew it.
  3. Once you have the screw out, gently tilt the light upward. Careful with the lip as it can be damaged when forced.
  4. Place the new one right back in and make sure that the lip is in proper place.
  5. Return everything you removed and tighten all the screws.

That’s pretty much it. Now you have an awesome rear view!
